Pension Investors Corporation of Orlando, Inc.
PICO was founded in 1982 by our president, Timothy L. Messett, CLU. The company provides qualified retirement plan services in addition to estate planning and insurance consulting. Our retirement plan services include: Plan design, implementation, and annual administration. The plans are designed based upon each client’s specific needs, objectives, and requirements.

We provide personal services: Our clients experience personal interaction with a designated administrator and dedicated consultant who are both familiar with the client’s situation. Annual work is personally hand-delivered and reviewed with all our clients. Our staff is always happy to provide technical support for any questions. We maintain state-of-the-art computer systems to provide innovative planning as well as insurance design. Our firm regularly sponsors and teaches Florida Board of Accountancy approved AICPA and FICPA courses throughout the state.

Elaine Barritt, MSPA, CPC, Enrolled Actuary
Elaine has been in the pension business since 1980, and joined PICO in 1995 as a defined benefit plan specialist and Enrolled Actuary. In her current role as the consulting actuary for PICO, Elaine reviews calculations, consults with staff on technical issues, and provides certification for the defined benefit and cash balance plans.
Her educational background includes a B.A. from Stetson University, the designation of Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) and Member (MSPA) from ASPPA, and the designation of Enrolled Actuary from the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries.
Walter joined PICO in 2006. He is experienced in all phases of Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution Qualified Plan Administration and Document Preparation. Walter has 35 years of experience in the Retirement and Benefits Planning sector. He started his career in the retirement planning business with a large TPA firm in Atlanta, GA as a systems programmer. Later, Walter transitioned into the compensation analysis arena, conducting industry compensation surveys for large associations.
Walter attended George State College.

Tatiana Pombo, QKA
Tatiana joined PICO in 2008. She has worked in the pension field since 2004. She is responsible for all phases of Defined Contribution Qualified Plan Administration and document preparation. Prior to joining PICO, she was employed by a TPA firm in North Carolina.
Tatiana attended Palm Beach Community College with a focus in accounting.

Karen Sarno, QKA, RP®, QPFC
Karen joined PICO in April 1995 and brought with her 11 years of prior experience in the Financial and Retirement Planning sector. Karen is experienced in all phases of Defined Contribution Qualified Plan Administration and document preparation. Prior to joining the financial services industry in 1984, Karen held a number of management positions with a major national corporation for over 14 years.
Karen’s education background includes an Associate in Science Degree from Andrew College and holds the designation of RP®- Registered Para-Planner from the College of Financial Planning, QKA – Qualified 401(k) Administrator from ASPPA, and QPFC – Qualified Pension Financial Consultant from ASPPA.

Jeffrey T. Sparks, ERPA, QPA
Jeff joined PICO in 2017. He has worked with retirement plans for almost 40 years. His career started with a life insurance company where he performed annual administration duties for Defined Benefit plans. As 401(k) plans evolved in the industry, he developed defined contribution plan experience becoming well-rounded in all aspects of qualified plan administration.
Jeff earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in Mathematics from North Carolina Wesleyan College. He earned the enrolled Retirement Plan Agent designation from the IRS in 2009 and the Qualified Plan Administrator designation from ASPPA in 1996. He is active in a local pension study group and is a past president of the ASPPA Benefits Council of Central Florida.

Carmen Walker, QPA
Carmen joined PICO in 2003 and has worked in the pension industry since 1990. She also works with the new business department on plan design and installation. She previously worked for an actuarial firm and an insurance company, providing administration for all types of qualified retirement plans with a main focus on defined benefit and 412(e)(3) plans.
Carmen’s education background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Indiana University South Bend and an Associate of Applied Arts degree from Ancilla College. She also holds her Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) designation through ASPPA.

Brenda Wren, QPA, ERPA
Brenda joined PICO in 1990, following years of experience in the financial services industry with a focus on retirement plans. In addition to serving as an officer of PICO, she is an administrator and consultant, handling many of our larger Defined Contribution plans including 401(k), cross-tested Profit Sharing and ESOP’s. She holds the credential of Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) from the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA).
Brenda’s education background includes an Associate in Arts Degree from Valencia Community College.

When Kay joined us in 1993, she came to us with more than 30 years of experience in the pension administration industry as an administrator and office manager. Her tenure at PICO lasted 25 wonderful years until her official retirement in December 2018. As an Officer of the company and Corporate Secretary, Kay was an invaluable part of our family leaving a legacy of true kinship, loyalty and devotion. All of us at PICO wish Kay the very best in her retirement. She will be dearly missed by all of us.
Sadly, we lost our dear, Sherry Murray, on July 30th, 2017. Sherry joined PICO in 2005. With over 30 years of experience, she was responsible for the administration and compliance of 401(k) and profit sharing plans. Sherry was a true professional and dedicated to her work. She fostered many relationships beyond business making many of her client, her friends. That was typical of Sherry, truly one of the kindest, most thoughtful people we have ever known. We were all very lucky to have been in her life. We have no idea how she found the inner strength to have maintained her fight with her various attacks from cancer. We can only admire in awe…her amazing courage to sustain a loving outlook and positive attitude throughout her tragic ordeal.
Our Miss Sherry has earned a well-deserved rest and we shall miss her.

Timothy L. Messett, CLU
Tim Messett is president and owner of Pension Investors Corporation of Orlando, Inc., and has more than 30 years of experience working with business owners in the design and implementation of qualified plans; including 401(k), Defined Benefit, Cross-tested Profit Sharing Plans, and ESOPS. He also provides clients with a variety of employee incentive programs designed to attract and retain key employees.
After attending Ohio State University, Tim served as a Warrant Officer in the US Army’s 162nd AHC, where he flew Combat Assault helicopters during his tour in Vietnam. Upon his return to the states, he served as a helicopter flight instructor at Ft. Rucker for the remainder of his tour of duty. Early in his business career, Tim served as Executive Vice President for a life insurance company headquartered in the Midwest, and was responsible for establishing their sales operation in the State of Florida.
Tim is the past President and co-founder of the Employee Benefits Council of Central Florida, a member of the Central Florida Estate Planning Council (CFEPC), Forum 400, a lifetime qualifying member of MDRT, and co-founder and Board Member of the National Partners Group, Inc. – an insurance producer group. He holds life insurance, health insurance, and real estate licenses.

Timothy B. Caldwell, AIF®
Tim joined Pension Investors Corp. of Orlando, Inc. in 1994. In additional to traditional employee benefit programs, he expanded his level of service to clients in the area of combo plans, Cross-tested and Dual Tested Defined Benefit plans. He also has expertise working with business owners to structure Buy/Sell business arrangements with the proper legal counsel, along with their personal, financial, estate, business succession, and asset protection planning.

Nancy M. Alvarez
Director of Operations
Since joining PICO in 2006, Nancy has become a Corporate Officer and PICO’s Director of Operations overseeing personnel, corporate accounting and day-to-day office administration matters. Nancy works in tandem with Tim Messett and Tim Caldwell as a client liaison, and coordinates our Annual 8 hour Continuing Education Seminar attended by more than 100 CPAs. She also oversees the ongoing maintenance of our website, the paperless documentation system and the client database. Nancy brings over 30 years of experience working in the corporate/financial services industry, including previously working for a major national brokerage firm and bank.
Nancy attended Florida International University and obtained her Associates of Arts degree from Miami-Dade Community College.

Erna joined PICO in 1999. As the Insurance Administrator, she is responsible for support with all life insurance illustrations, underwriting applications, policy service, and reviews. She has over 25 years of experience working with some of the most respected carriers in the life insurance industry. Her professional management designation was earned by passing 10 national examinations on life and health insurance subjects, including: Insurance, finance, marketing, law, information systems, accounting, and management. She earned her designation as Fellow, Life Management Institute in 1989.

Dawn joined PICO in 2018 as an Assistant Administrator. She is responsible for daily administrative support to Plan Administrator’s. She is also the main assistant with the implementation of new business. She has over 15 years of experience in various administrative roles with local realtors and service providers.

Jr Administrative Asst
Bekah joined PICO in mid-2018 as the Receptionist – Junior Administrative Assistant. Among her daily responsibilities, Bekah also assists our sales staff and administrators by coordinating client meetings, processing credit card payments, assisting with our paperless system and maintaining overall office organization.
Bekah has previously worked as an office manager for a local law firm and concierge valet for a small business owner.
She is currently enrolled at University of Central Florida.
